“When once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return.” ~ Leonardo Da Vinci
Recently, I had the opportunity to partake in a profoundly impactful experience. In my line of work, I am often asked to photograph spectacular shots, however, being asked to fly in a helicopter to photograph aerial shots of San Francisco has been one of the most memorable thus far in my career.
My scenic tour of San Francisco from an aerial platform was breathtaking.
Hours were spent preparing for this adventure by researching specific locations for each shot, the best time of day to photograph, the best weather by time of year; all in the hopes of capturing the perfect image. Unfortunately with San Francisco weather being what it is, many of my completed pieces are actually composites taken from several different images and angles.
One might also not realize just how much camera shake can occur when flying in a helicopter. These images, and many others that were taken, would not have been possible without the use of a gyroscope that I rented to complete this project.
Seeing San Francisco from this perspective has brought a new found appreciation for the city and its beauty. Although the chaos of this urban jungle may sometimes seem daunting, the magnitude of its splendor is evident in these images that were captured and I will forever be thankful for the experience.
This project has inspired a desire to create more images of this nature. To see more projects like this as they unfold, please visit my Views portfolio at: http://rseagraves.com/#/portfolios/views/RSeagraves_SS-5
